Chandler Parsons Just Playing “The Game”

Matthew Emmons-USA TODAY Sports

Let’s just say that your company had signed you to a 3-year deal, with an option to leave in the third year of that contract. Let us also assume that by the time that you come to the end of that second year, there is the opportunity for you to receive a bigger deal with more money via other companies out there. Is there anything wrong with opting out of that contract to see what those other companies are going to bring to the table in terms of offers?

I don’t think so. Sign me up.

That is exactly what Chandler Parsons is doing. It may ruffle our feathers, and his way of handling the issue might rub us wrong, but the fact is, he is just doing what is right for him, which is exactly what you would do if you were in the same position.

You sure do, my man! Nobody is wrong here. The Dallas Mavericks aren’t wrong for trying to swoon Parsons into staying for that third year or signing a deal that will allow them to chase some other big names out on the market like Hassan Whiteside and Mike Conley Jr. Parsons isn’t wrong for opting out of a deal for a deal that will certainly net him more money. The fact is that despite the injuries, in this NBA era, Parsons is indeed a max contract player. The latest injury to his knee was just bad timing, and not that big of a deal in terms of rehab and recovery time. He was playing his best ball and showing the league what he has to offer. The fact is that when healthy, Parsons can hurt you in a variety of ways. His jump shot, albeit sometimes a work in progress, is deadly when he’s got it going, which allows him to use his lethal pump fake and drive to the basket. He can pass and he has also shown the ability to clean up the glass on both ends of the floor.

We know, man. And while MFFL’s everywhere may be upset at the idea of you leaving, they are more just worried about what may could turn into yet another disastrous summer as a Mavericks fan. They have now gotten our hopes up yet again. Hassan Whiteside and/or Mike Conley Jr. joining Dirk Nowitzki, Wes Matthews, and an intriguing talent in Justin Anderson? Yes, yes, and yes! The problem is we know better. We fear that we are going to put all of our eggs in a only a couple of baskets and be left in a drunken stupor come the end of the summer.

We, as fans, expect you to stay on board and help us recruit these guys, while passing up more money and the opportunity to be wine and dined the next couple weeks. Obviously, that is exactly what we would do if we were in the same position you are in now, right? WRONG.

You are. Do your thing CP! Despite Mavericks fans everywhere having issues with it, the bottom line is that they would all do the same thing if they were in your shoes.
