Breaking down the 2018 Dallas Cowboys schedule

Breaking down the 2018 Dallas Cowboys schedule

The Dallas Cowboys will report to training camp in Oxnard, California July 24th, where they will practice for the first three weeks of training camp. They will break camp before their opening preseason game against the San Francisco 49ers. They will have practices at The Star in Frisco at some point but those dates have not been released yet.

Whenever the NFL schedule comes out there are certain things you look at. Things such as the nationally televised games, when do you face your division opponents etc…

4 things to know about the 2018 regular season schedule.

The Division Games

One of the most important and first things I look at when the schedule comes out is when the division games are. For the Cowboys, you almost expect the Cowboys to open the season at home against the Giants. In 2018, that will not be the case. The Cowboys will still open their home schedule with the Giants, but this year it will be in Week 2. The only division game in the month of September.

They also have one division game in the month of October when they travel to Washington October 21st.

The rest of the division schedule looks like this.

Nov 11th – @ Philadelphia Eagles

Nov 22nd – Washington Redskins (Thanksgiving)

Dec 9th – Philadelphia Eagles

Dec 30th – @ New York Giants

Nationally Televised Games

They Cowboys are guaranteed to have the most nationally televised games in most years. In 2018, they will have five nationally televised games, plus the Thanksgiving game. Five is the most you can have in the NFL.

Sunday, September 16th – New York Giants (NBC)

Sunday, October 7th – @ Houston Texans (NBC)

Monday, November 5th – Tennessee Titans (ESPN)

Sunday, November 11th – @ Philadelphia Eagles (NBC)

Thursday, November 22nd – Washington Redskins (FOX)

Thursday, November 29th – New Orleans Saints (FOX, NFLN)

Toughest Stretch of Games

Of course, training camp is still about four weeks away, but it is always fun to take a look and see where potential road blocks could be. In 2018, the toughest stretch of games (on paper) appears to be the month of November. They have a 6 game stretch where they will play four playoff teams from 2017. That stretch includes Tennessee, Atlanta, Philadelphia twice and the Saints.

December Schedule

December is obviously very important and can be tricky when it comes to weather. The Cowboys appear to have caught a break this year. 3 of the 4 games in December will be played in climate controlled environments. They will play home games against Philadelphia and Tampa Bay. They will travel to Indianapolis and then New York week 17.
