Cowboys: 2020 Mock Draft Watch 2.0

Here’s a look at who NFL draft analysts are predicting the Dallas Cowboys will select in this year’s draft. The Cowboys currently have the 17th pick in the 2020 NFL draft.

Daniel Jeremiah, NFL.com – Xavier McKinney, S

School: Alabama | Year: Junior

“McKinney is the best safety in the draft, and he addresses a glaring need for the Cowboys.”

Lance Zierlein, NFL.com – Xavier McKinney, S

School: Alabama | Year: Junior

“Assuming Dallas locks up pending free agent Byron Jones, McKinney would give the ‘Boys a versatile, interchangeable safety who can also line up over the slot.”

Bucky Brooks, NFL.com – Henry Ruggs III, WR

School: Alabama | Year: Junior

“Adding speed, quickness and playmaking ability to the receiving corps could be a priority with several gifted free agents poised to hit the market.”

Chris Trapasso, CBS Sports – Trevon Diggs, CB

School: LSU | Year: Senior

“The Cowboys go with another big, physical, athletic cornerback in Diggs to replace Byron Jones.”

Walter Football – Grant Delpit, S

School: LSU | Senior

Previous Pick: Xavier McKinney, S, Alabama

“The Cowboys tried to land Earl Thomas last offseason, but they haven’t been able to upgrade their hole at safety. Perhaps they’ll do that with this pick.  Grant Delpit is an exceptional talent who was once considered a top-10 lock, but has struggled a bit in 2019.”

Joe Marino, The Draft Network – Grant Delpit, S

“The Dallas Cowboys were in on Jamal Adams at the trade deadline, and Grant Delpit offers a versatile skill set like that of Adams. He can win as one-high safety, deep zones, man coverage and play forward against the run and quick game.”

Dan Kadar, SB Nation – Grant Delpit, S

“Unless you count experimenting with Byron Jones at the position, the Cowboys haven’t taken a safety in the first three rounds of the draft since Roy Williams in 2002. At that point, Delpit was not even 4 years old. Delpit may not be a big hitter like Williams was, but he can help solve the Cowboys’ long-standing problems at safety.”

Lance Cartelli, 24/7 Sports – Javon Kinlaw, DL

School: South Carolina | Year: Senior

“Kinlaw looks like a perfect fit for a Dallas Cowboys defense that disappointed in 2019.”

Matthew Postins, SI.com – Grant Delpit, S

“I chose Delpit because safety continues to be a stubborn position for the Cowboys and I suspect they will lose Jeff Heath in free agency, one way or another. Delpit was the first safety off the board in this mock. Most of the scouts on the Draft Network site said the same thing — he’s a ball-hawking safety who needs to improve a bit in run support.”

Kristopher Knox, Bleacher Report – Xavier McKinney, S

Jason McIntyre, FOX Sports – Grant Delpit, S,

“I give Delpit the slight nod over Xavier McKinney as the best safety in the draft. This would get adjusted if Jerry Jones is able to trade for Jamal Adams of the Jets.”

Eddie Brown, San Diego Tribune – Javon Kinlaw, DT

“The Cowboys have had success creating pressure on the quarterback from the edge, but not inside. An interior wrecking ball like the AP All-American has the potential to be a force against the pass and run at the next level. This could be wishful thinking for Dallas if Kinlaw continues to dominate in Mobile. Top needs: S, DL, TE.”
