Dallas Cowboys: Rest of the season projections

The Dallas Cowboys entered their bye week 3-4 after a disappointing loss to the division leading Washington Redskins. Jerry Jones didn’t speak to the media after the game and canceled his weekly radio show last Tuesday. That left the world wondering what is going, are they going to make a coaching change? Well, it wasn’t a coaching change but they did trade their 2019 first round pick for wide receiver Amari Cooper. Then, yesterday they fired their offensive coordinator, Paul Alexander who was hired this past offseason.

Are those two moves enough to get things headed in the right direction? Let’s take a look.

WEEK 9 – Tennessee Titans

Prediction: Cowboys 20 Titans 17

Analysis: Both of these offenses have struggled at different points this season, but the Cowboys have just enough offense to beat the Titans and improve to 4-0 at home.

Week 10 – @ Philadelphia Eagles

Prediction: Eagles 27 Cowboys 20

Analysis: The Eagles acquired Golden Tate from the Detroit Lions before the trade deadline Tuesday and have two weeks to prepare for the Cowboys. The Eagles defensive line will be able to get pressure on Dak Prescott and cause two turnovers and win another close game.

Week 11 – @ Atlanta Falcons

Prediction: Falcons 24 Cowboys 21

Analysis: The injury bug has hit the Atlanta Falcons as hard as any team in the NFL, especially on defense but their high flying offense will be enough to squeeze by the Cowboys at home. The Cowboys will fall to 4-6 with all six losses on the road.

Week 12 – Washington Redskins

Prediction: Cowboys 20 Redskins 14

Analysis: Facing a must win game, the Cowboys return the favor against the Redskins at home on Thanksgiving. The Redskins will have to respect the passing game this time around with Amari Cooper on the outside and that will free up Ezekiel Elliott.

Week 13 – New Orleans Saints

Prediction: New Orleans 34 Cowboys 24

Analysis: Brees and company will score early and often and the Cowboys will not be able to keep up. Saints opportunistic defense will step up when the Cowboys are forced to throw.

Week 14 – Philadelphia Eagles

Prediction: Cowboys 24 Eagles 17

Analysis: It is tough to beat a team twice in the NFC East and the Cowboys will protect home field in this matchup. The Cowboys will be able hold the Eagles offense under 20 points.

Week 15 – @ Indianapolis Colts

Prediction: Cowboys 27 Colts 17

Analysis: For as good as the Cowboys defense is, they still do not create a bunch of turnovers. However, Andrew Luck can be turnover prone and that will prove the difference in this matchup and will lead the Cowboys to their first road win of the season.

Week 16 – Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Prediction: Cowboys 27 Bucs 24

Analysis: Who knows who will be playing quarterback for Tampa Bay at this point, but they have a ton of weapons on the offensive side of the ball. But their defense is bad and Elliott will be able to get free against them and lead the team to victory.

Week 17 @ New York Giants

Prediction: Cowboys 17 Giants 10

Analysis: This will be the last game of the season for both teams so not a whole lot will be on the line but the Cowboys win this game to finish the season 9-7, which will not be good enough to land a playoff spot.
