Dallas Cowboys Stock Report: Week 3

Dallas Cowboys Stock Report: Week 3

The Dallas Cowboys lost in Seattle 24-13 Sunday and dropped to 1-2. It was another lackluster performance on the road. It was a rough day for the offensive line and quarterback Dak Prescott. The offense didn’t score a touchdown until late in the 4th quarter when the game had been decided.

Here is your week three stock report…

STOCK UP

Leighton Vander Esch

Sean Lee went into Sunday with a hamstring injury that he downplayed all week leading up to Sunday and came out on the first drive and recorded five tackles. Lee will now miss the next handful of games due to the hamstring injury, but unlike in past years the Cowboys seem to have a replacement that will keep the defense from going in the tank. The Cowboys first round draft pick Leighton Vander Esch stepped up in Lee’s absence and recorded 11 tackles for the game and looks like he is more than capable of stepping up for however long Lee is out.

Byron Jones

Byron Jones continues to shine back at corner this season. According to PFF, Jones has been the best cornerback in football. If it wasn’t for Kris Richard, the Cowboys would have declined his option this offseason and Jones would still be playing safety. Jones can thank Richard when he gets his payday this offseason.

Brett Maher

Brett Maher made both of his kicks Sunday afternoon, one from 50 then another from 35. Since missing his first kick in Carolina, Maher has made all four of his kicks since. The attempts haven’t looked pretty but you can’t argue with the results the last two weeks.

STOCK DOWN

Dak Prescott

The numbers aren’t pretty for Dak Prescott these days. In the last 10 games, he has five games where his passer rating has been less than 61. In the last 11 games he has thrown more INTs than touchdowns (8TDs, 11INTs). These are numbers of a guy that has lost confidence and would have some teams talking quarterback change. The Cowboys continue to be behind Prescott and the coaching staff, but at some point someone has to be held accountable for the quarterbacks decline.

Ezekiel Elliott

The statistics say Ezekiel Elliott had a great day but if you watched the game you saw a guy who looked extremely unfocused. He cost his team a touchdown by running out of bounds and coming back in bounds and being the first one to touch the ball.  Late in the game, he fumbled inside the red zone while carrying the ball in the wrong hand. He also had a drop on third down early in the game.

Randy Gregory

There was a lot of excitement once he was reinstated by the NFL but Randy Gregory has gotten off to a very slow start this season. He hasn’t gotten much pressure on the quarterback and Sunday, he got called for unsportsmanlike conduct at the end of the first half that allowed the Seahawks to kick a 47 yard field goal, instead of a 60+ yarder.
