One-on-One: Getting To Know Jonathan Gibson

Back in July, the Dallas Mavericks signed Summer League standout, Jonathan Gibson. He is a 28-year-old guard standing at 6-2. He played at New Mexico State and played in China last season.  In the six games he played in Las Vegas, he averaged 17 points, 3 rebounds, and shot 50% from the field and over 45% from long distance. We thought you guys would like to know a little more about our newest Maverick.

 

1. What has the journey to the NBA been like for you?

It’s been long! But, fun and rewarding. I was able to travel and see the world and experience a lot of different cultures. Playing in different leagues helped me get better as a player each year.

 
2. What areas of your game are you still trying to improve?

There’s always room for improvement and I work to improve my game every year.

 

3. What do you feel you can bring to the Mavericks moving forward?

My game in particular will add energy and speed, and I am another passionate player who is committed to winning.

4. If you had to compare yourself to another player, either former or current, who would it be?

Iverson.

 

5. Who is your favorite player of all time?

Iverson.

 

6. Have you spoken to anyone on the Mavericks roster besides JA? Who was it and what advice did they have for you?

Wesley Matthews – he told me he’s been in my position before and that I just have to keep grinding.

7. Favorite Music? Artist?

Rap – Drake or J. Cole

 

8. What skills do you feel you excel at?

Quickness, dynamic scoring and creativity.

 

9. What was the experience in China like for you?

The food and language barrier was rough and the gyms were usually cold, but it was a good experience overall. I was a part of two great organizations and they had loyal fans.

 

10. Who are you most excited to play with on the Mavericks? What opponent?

Dirk ,because he’s Dirk. Opponent?  Golden State

Ryan Wilson founded Mavs Fanatic (Now Dallas Sports Fanatic) in January of 2012. He had a vision of starting something new and different. A place where fans of the Dallas Mavericks and fans of writing could come and be heard. A blog "Run By Fans For Fans". He is also a fan of the Dallas Cowboys and the Chicago WhiteSox (His hometown team). Mavs Fanatic is now known as Dallas Sports Fanatic, a blog that covers all of the major Dallas pro sports teams.
