Luka MVP or Deep Playoff Run? Predictions for the 2019-2020 Mavericks season

With the Mavericks tipping off their 2019-2020 season in Phoenix tonight, it’s time to get in some predictions in before the buzzer sounds.

ICYMI: Check out a preview for tonight’s game.

Which of the rookies will have the best overall season?
Dylan Duell: J
osh Green
Michael Mulford: Josh Green
Reese Konkle: Josh Green

Over/under for Porzingis regular season games played at 52.5
Dylan:
Over
Mulford: Under
Konkle: Over

Who’s the third leading scorer behind Luka and Porzingis?
Dylan:
Hardaway Jr.
Mulford: Hardaway Jr.
Konkle: Hardaway Jr.

Which area of his game does Luka improve the most this season?
Dylan: Three point shooting percentage, mostly because he won’t take as many. He took over nine per game last season, so hopefully he’s at six or so this season and very few of them are late in the shot clock heaves that have little chance of going in.
Mulford: Shooting, whether that’s free throw or from three, and overall conditioning.
Konkle: He’s got several areas where he can grow. Three point shooting, conditioning, maturity, etc… But I’ll point to the most basic skill in basketball: free throws shooting. He was okay from the line last year, but for a player of his caliber who is such a frequent visitor there, he needs to improve.

Predict one player on the roster who isn’t on it at the end of the season
Dylan:
Willie Cauley-Stein. Some team will need the depth at the deadline and I think he could be pretty expendable in the big man rotation once Porzingis is active.
Mulford: Willie Cauley-Stein. Lack of minutes and a tradable contract could make him expendable.
Konkle: I think they’re all likely to stick around, but if I had to choose I’d say Brunson. He’s the most appealing trade chip that I could see them being okay with giving up. But again, I don’t see this happening.

Regular season win/loss record?
Dylan:
48-24
Mulford: 45-27
Konkle: 46-26

What will happen in the postseason?
Dylan:
I’ve got them losing in the Conference Finals to the Lakers. Taking big steps forward.
Mulford: Knocked out in the second round.
Konkle: Mavs win their first round series, then bow out in round 2 to either the Lakers or Clippers.
