Well, Donnie Nelson said prior to the draft that there was an emphasis on small forwards and that emphasis has continued into free agency.

First reported by The Athletic’s Shams Charania, the Mavericks agreed to terms on a two-year deal with former Orlando Magic forward Wes Iwundu.

Iwundu is still raw offensively but that’s not what he’s known for nor what he’s being signed for. He’s known for being a solid wing defender who provides length on the perimeter, something as previously stated, the Mavs have prioritized this offseason.

In 52 games last season with Orlando, Iwundu averaged 5.8 points per game in 18.3 minutes per game.

According to ESPN’s Zach Lowe, Iwundu’s deal is for the veteran minimum.

As mentioned by DMN’s Brad Townsend, the Mavericks are excited about what Iwundu can bring to the team.

Iwundu joins the likes of Josh Richardson, Josh Green, Tyler Bey, and James Johnson as the “more athletic, long set of wings” that Dallas has added this offseason.

With continued work on his developing jumpshot, Iwundu could be a nice, cheap surprise for the Mavericks in terms of a potential valuable 3-and-D wing.
