Believe it or not, there was a basketball game played Tuesday night! In a very impressive effort on both ends of the court, the Dallas Mavericks won their 2nd game in a row, defeating the Los Angeles Lakers 109-97 Tuesday night at Staples Center.

The Mavs started off this game having to deal with a scorching hot Nick Young, who scored the Lakers initial 11 points, helping his team jump out to an early 13-8 lead. The Lakers led 27-25 after the 1st quarter, but after an impressive 2nd quarter, the Mavs claimed a 58-54 lead at halftime behind the scoring of Harrison Barnes and Seth Curry.

The 2nd half was more of the same, as Barnes and Curry continued their efficient scoring nights. There were some anxious moments in the 2nd half when the Lakers continued to stay hot from 3-point range.  After 3 quarters, Dallas led 83-77.  In the 4th quarter, things got tight, and the Lakers even briefly took a 91-89 lead with 7:31 remaining in the game. From that point on, Dallas never looked back as Barnes scored 7 straight points to give them the lead for good.

Top Performances

Harrison Barnes: 31 points (11-18 shooting), 2 rebounds, 2 assists.  This was Barnes’ 2nd straight 30-point game for the Mavs, and his 3rd overall for the season.  Barnes will face his former team, the Golden State Warriors on Wednesday night.

Seth Curry: 23 points (9-15 shooting), 4 rebounds, 4 assists. Curry not only had a season high for points, but also a new career high as well. He looked calm and collected out there. It was great to see heat up in this one. Next up? A matchup with his older, unanimous MVP bother, Steph Curry. Dallas will play at Oracle Arena Wednesday night against the Warriors on the 2nd night of the back to back.

JJ Barea: 18 points (7-15 shooting), 7 rebounds, 8 assists.  Barea is straight up ballin’ for the Mavs so far this season.  The fact that Deron Williams keeps having to miss time is part of the reason for JJ’s inflated stats.  That being said, you can’t deny the will and the effort Barea brings on a nightly basis. I mean come on, the dude is 5’5” and grabbed SEVEN rebounds! (For the record, Barea is listed at 6’0”, but I will never believe that.)

Quote of the Night

“It’s just another game. We’re 2-5 right now, trying to go back home 3-5” – Harrison Barnes on going back to play Golden State

It’s a quick turnaround for the Mavs.  They’ll fly north of Los Angeles to San Francisco for a date with the Golden State Warriors at Oracle Arena. Tipoff is once again at 9:30 pm CT. Although Golden State is considered to be a “super team,” they have experienced their fair share of rough patches.  The same Laker team the Mavs defeated tonight, defeated the Warriors by 20 points last week.  With the Mavs starting to get in a little bit of a groove, it might be a more competitive game than most would think!
