Mavs Game Night: Atlanta at Dallas

This is the day that Mavericks fans have anticipated since the final game of the disappointing 2012-2013 season. The Mavs tip-off their 2013-2014 schedule in an inter-conference matchup against the Atlanta Hawks.

The fans should be excited about the new improved starting lineup and a healthy Dirk Nowitzki at the start of the season. Having a scoring machine like Monta Ellis is essential as it tremendously helps ease the scoring load off Dirk. Jose Calderon is an amazing veteran floor general, so expect a good dose of pick-n-roll action between Jose and Dirk.

If Dallas wants to win this game, the main focus would be to limit unforced turnovers.

The Hawks came to Dallas a week ago without a single starter, but Al Horford, Jeff Teague and sharpshooter Kyle Korver will all be in action tonight. Mavs’ Ellis should take advantage of the opportunity to penetrate to the basket easily if matched up against Korver.

On the defensive side of the ball, the Mavs key to winning this game is to capitalize on the Hawks’ mistakes. With new head coach Mike Budenholzer and new additions Paul Millsap, DeMarre Carroll and Elton Brand, the Hawks might struggle with team chemistry being that it’s the first game of the season.

The same could be said for our Mavs team who have nine new faces still all trying to get on the same page. This will be a fine test on opening night.

It should be an exciting game to watch.

Go Mavs!

Game action tips at 7:30 p.m. CT. and will be televised on Fox Sports Southwest.
