Meet the players of Mavs Gaming

Mavs Gaming, the Dallas Mavericks’ NBA 2K team, is one of 17 franchises participating in the inaugural season of the NBA 2K League, a professional esports league featuring the best NBA 2K players in the world.

Led by head coach Jonah Edwards, the team is made up of five starters and one alternate including the No. 1 pick in the NBA 2K League Draft Artreyo “DIMEZ” Boyd, Ryan Conger, Jannis Neumann, Waseem Talbert, Ryan de Villon, and Harry Hurst.

“It’s literally a mimic of the actual NBA,” Boyd describes the NBA 2K League. “From the competitiveness to the production. We train hard like professional players.”

The Dallas Mavericks aren’t the only team sporting a German baller, Mavs Gaming has their very own Dirk in Neumann, a 22-year-old German that plays power forward for the team.

“It was huge getting drafted,” Neumann said. “Even bigger getting drafted by the Mavericks. Dirk Nowitzki is obviously big. He’s basketball in Germany, so it was amazing getting drafted by the Mavericks.”

Mavs Gaming calls the Mavs former front offices in Deep Ellum home. Here they practice, watch film and spend the majority time when they aren’t in New York, where all the competition takes place from the NBA 2K League Studio in New York City.

The 3-1 Mavs Gaming are currently in Week 4 of a 15-week regular season schedule that features both weekly games and tournaments, followed by the NBA 2K League Playoffs and Finals in August.

Mavs gaming currently has two players in the top five in scoring and in steals with Conger and Boyd. Conger is also fourth with 83 rebounds, while Boyd is third with 114 assists, second in three-point percentage at 77.8, and first (tied) in free-throw percentage at 100.

Ryan de Villon is fifth in the league at three-point percentage at 70.8.

“Be sure to tune in,” Boyd said. “It gets crazy. You’ll never fully understand it until you come to a live game. Tune into the NBA 2K League on Twitch and come see how we work.”
