While the Dallas Mavericks got some encouraging news yesterday with the details regarding Wes Matthews and Chandler Parsons, the Mavericks will once again take the floor tonight with a depleted roster. It was reported yesterday that Matthews took part in contact drills yesterday, and Parsons participated in 5-on-0 non-contact drills as well.

Raymond Felton (hamstring), Wes Matthews (Achilles), Javale McGee (leg), Dirk Nowitzki (rest), Chandler Parsons (knee), Dwight Powell (elbow) & Deron Williams (calf) won’t travel. This means the third game of the Mavericks preseason campaign will look a lot like the first two, which could be difficult when having to deal with Russell Westbrook and the Oklahoma City Thunder.

“Well, we’re lightyears from where we want to be, just ’cause we haven’t had everybody out here. But that said, we’re getting a lot of positive things accomplished. And a lot of the young guys that we wanted to take a good and hard look at, we’re getting a long look at. So, that will help us with our evaluations when it comes time to trim the roster down,”- Rick Carlisle

John Jenkins and Charlie Villanueva have impressed through the first two games. While it’s nice to see Jenkins’ potential, it would also be encouraging to see what Mavericks rookie, Justin Anderson, can bring to the table. He hasn’t shot the ball well to start the preseason, but has tried to provide some help in other areas.

Some may have issues with the fact that the Mavericks haven’t had their big guns, but the recent news is encouraging for when the games will begin to truly matter. However, it may be beneficial to give some of these bench players extra minutes, which will not only help their confidence moving forward, but will allow the front office to see who is going to stay and who is going to go.

The game will start at 7 p.m. CT, and it will air locally on Fox Sports Plus. You can also hear it on 103.3 FM ESPN.
