According to a report by the Dallas Morning News, an MRI on the left knee of point guard Deron Williams has revealed a sprain, but no structural damage. Williams sat out during the Mavs 104-88 loss to the Los Angeles Clippers last night, after suffering an injury when he bumped knees with Suns guard Eric Bledsoe in the Mavs opening night road win over the Phoenix Suns on Wednesday night. Shooting guard Wes Matthews (Achilles) also sat out as a precaution, as he continues to work his way back into form. Williams played well in his debut, scoring 12 points on 5/8 shooting from the floor in 20 minutes before he was eventually pulled from the game after attempting to play through it.

“We don’t think it’s serious,” Carlisle told ESPN Dallas. “The hope is that we can get him going here, but I don’t have a timetable.”

Williams has spent the majority of his tenure with the Mavs on the injury list after suffering a calf injury at the of start of training camp, playing in only the final game of the preseason. The hope is that Chandler Parsons will be ready to play when the Mavs take on the Lakers at Staples Center in LA on Sunday night. Parsons has reportedly stepped up his conditioning this past week in hopes of making a season debut. Should Parsons return, the Mavs could be rolling out a starting lineup of Deron Williams, Wes Matthews, Dirk Nowitzki and Zaza Pachulia. Sounds like things are looking up for the this Dallas squad.
