#TBT with The Forgotten Maverick Podcast : Rick Hughes

Welcome to the another episode of the Forgotten Maverick Podcast with Dallas Sports Fanatic, a podcast for fellow MFFLs where we interview former Mavericks players about their basketball career and time with the Mavs. On this episode, we caught up with Rick Hughes, who spent part of the 1999/2000 NBA season with the Mavericks.

While his NBA experience was brief, it was certainly memorable.  In this episode, Rick discusses his pre-season stint as a member of the Utah Jazz, playing alongside Karl Malone and John Stockton.  While giving insight into his time as Mav, Rick goes into detail about his impressions of a young Dirk Nowitzki, playing against the eventual NBA champion LA Lakers and being used to deploy Don Nelson’s “Hack-A-Shaq” strategy against Shaquille O’Neal, and his memories of playing on the world’s premiere basketball stage, Madison Square Garden.   After leaving the Mavericks, Rick’s passion for basketball took him overseas where he enjoyed a successful career before eventually retiring in 2012.

Thank you for listening, come back next week for our conversation with Bruno Sundov.

Podcast host for the Forgotten Maverick Podcast | Life long Mavs fan, born and raised in Dallas. I've been interested in NBA history for as long as I can remember. I started the "@ForgottenMavs" Instagram account in late 2016 posting pics of some lesser known Mavs, short-tenured Mavs, etc. In October of 2017, the account evolved into the "Forgotten Maverick" podcast where I interview some of the Mavs featured on the account about their NBA career and time in Dallas. It's been a lot of fun and I'm excited to share it with you! #mffl
