Wrap Up: Monta Ellis’ Goes Buck Hunting

MILWAUKEE, WI – It was another late thriller for the Mavs as they improved to 15-5 on the season after defeating the Milwaukee Bucks 107-105 to complete the sweep of their four-game road trip.  The Mavs were playing on the second night of a back-to-back after beating the Chicago Bulls in a double overtime thriller 132-129. The Bucks came into tonight’s game on a two-game losing streak after a three-point loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers last night and a 14-point loss against the Houston Rockets on Saturday night.

Slow Start

Tonight the Mavs used a heavy dose of Al Farouq Aminu who was filling in at the power forward position for Dirk, who took the night off to rest. The Mavs came into the game with a hangover from last night’s excitement in Chicago, with the Bucks got off to a quick 6-0 start and the Mavs continued to play catch up.  In the first half, the Mavs played with high energy and effort on the defensive end, but still allowed the Bucks to shoot 62.5% from the field. On the defensive end the Bucks, pressured the Mavs into tough shots that allowed them to get easy buckets in transition.

Playing Catch Up

Midway through the third quarter, the Mavs went on a 10-0 run, picked up their efficiency on defensive and gained their first lead of the game, 69-68. But they continued to struggle on the offensive end and failed to hold the lead.  Out of nowhere, Jared Dudley came in for the Bucks hitting two big threes early in the fourth quarter to put the Mavs in another big hole.  The Mavs went zone defensive coverage in the second half that the Bucks could not seem to figure out, but continued to keep the lead. The lead bounced back and forth for much of the fourth quarter. Then, with the game tied at 105 with 8.9 seconds left the Mavs put the ball in Monta Ellis’ hands and here’s what happened:
