2020 Outlook: Dallas Cowboys week by week predictions

The wait is almost over. The Dallas Cowboys are officially in a game week and will take on the Los Angeles Rams Sunday night on NBC. There is a lot to be excited about on paper for this team but we all know until the games are played, who truly knows.

With that being said, I am fairly certain that the NFC East is a two horse race between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Cowboys.

Here are my game by game predictions for the 2020 season.

9/13 @ Los Angeles Rams

Analysis

To me, the Rams are one of the more confusing teams to predict heading into the season. Last year, they missed the playoffs by a game and the offense wasn’t as potent as it had been the previous two seasons. I expect a lot of points to be scored in this one on both sides, but at the end I feel that the offensive attack of the Cowboys will outlast the Rams attack.

Prediction

Cowboys 38 Rams 28 (Cowboys 1-0)

9/20 Atlanta Falcons

Analysis

Earl Thomas Cowboys debut! This game might look like an easy win for the Cowboys. However, I feel that the Falcons are a team that could potentially make the playoffs as a wild card in 2020. They finished the 2019 season winning four straight and still possess one of the best offensive attacks in the NFL. I expect the Cowboys to protect home field and come away with a one score win.

Prediction

Cowboys 31 Falcons 24 (Cowboys 2-0)

9/27 @ Seattle Seahawks

Analysis

With fans, you almost can always chalk up a road game to Seattle as a loss because of the 12th man. This season is a bit different as the Seahawks are expected to play their September home games without fans. The Seahawks still have one of the top three quarterbacks in football and that is the difference maker in this one.

Prediction

Seahawks 30 Cowboys 24 (Cowboys 2-1)

10/4 Cleveland Browns

Analysis

The Browns are coming off of a season that didn’t live up to the expectations in 2019. In 2020, I expect them to be better but not enough to beat the Cowboys on the road.

Prediction

Cowboys 35 Browns 20 (Cowboys 3-1)

10/11 New York Giants

Analysis

Jason Garrett returns to Dallas as offensive coordinator of the Giants! The talk out of New York has been “watch out for Daniel Jones in year two,” and I believe he will be improved and I expect Barkley to be Barkley. The Cowboys still come away with a very convincing win at home.

Prediction

Cowboys 38 Giants 17 (Cowboys 4-1)

10/19 Arizona Cardinals (MNF)

Analysis

Kyler Murray returns to play in his home state on Monday night football. With the addition of Deandre Hopkins, the Cardinals appear to be set up as one of the more exciting teams in the league. In this game, I expect them to put up a fight against the Cowboys but come up just short.

Prediction

Cowboys 27 Cardinals 21 (Cowboys 5-1)

10/25 @ Washington Football Team

Analysis

Under new head coach Ron Rivera, Washington won’t be a pushover and will hold the Cowboys to their lowest point total to this point in the season, but don’t have enough offense to win at the end.

Prediction

Cowboys 21 Washington 10 (Cowboys 6-1)

11/1 @ Philadelphia Eagles

Analysis

The Cowboys head on the road again to face another division rival. This one doesn’t go as planned and the Cowboys come up short again in Philly to drop to 6-2. But they remain in first place.

Prediction

Eagles 23 Cowboys 20 (Cowboys 6-2)

11/8 Pittsburgh Steelers

Analysis

TJ Watt comes to Dallas and faces the Cowboys for the first time. One of my sleepers in the AFC are the Steelers. They missed out on the playoffs in 2019 by a game even though Ben Roethlisberger only played in two games. In 2020, Ben is back and Pittsburgh is rolling and sends the Cowboys into the bye week on a two game losing streak.

Prediction

Steelers 30 Cowboys 20 (Cowboys 6-3)

11/22 @ Minnesota Vikings

Analysis

The Cowboys come out of the bye week and head to Minnesota. In 2019, the Vikings punished the Cowboys on the ground with Dalvin Cook. The Cowboys contain Cook and avoid a three game losing streak in Everson Griffens return to Minnesota.

Prediction

Cowboys 27 Vikings 16 (Cowboys 7-3)

11/26 Washington Football Team

Analysis

Thanksgiving day and Washington is in town for the final matchup against the Cowboys. Ceedee Lamb has a big day receiving playing on Thanksgiving for the first time as a Cowboy and the Cowboys route Washington.

Prediction

Cowboys 41 Washington 13 (Cowboys 8-3)

12/3 @ Baltimore Ravens

Analysis

The Cowboys travel to Baltimore for another Thursday night game. Reigning MVP Lamar Jackson ends up being too much to handle for the Cowboys and the Cowboys fall to 8-4 heading into the last quarter of the season.

Prediction

Ravens 31 Cowboys 27 (Cowboys 8-4)

12/13 @ Cincinnati Bengals

Analysis

The Cowboys head on the road again to take on another AFC North opponent. The Bengals and rookie Joe Burrow can’t find enough offense or stops to contain the Cowboys high flying attack and the Cowboys run away with this win.

Prediction

Cowboys 35 Bengals 20 (Cowboys 9-4)

12/20 San Francisco 49ers

Analysis

The defending NFC Champions come to town in the middle of a disappointing season following their Super Bowl run. The Cowboys find it tough to score at times during this game but Dak Prescott makes enough plays to squeak out a win at home.

Prediction

Cowboys 24 49ers 16 (Cowboys 10-4)

12/27 Philadelphia Eagles

Analysis

For second straight season, these division rivals meet up in a division deciding matchup in week 16. This time around the Cowboys are at home and Dak is fully healthy. The Cowboys pull out a win and clinch the division in Mike McCarthys first season as head coach of the Cowboys.

Prediction

Cowboys 30 Eagles 22 (Cowboys 11-4)

1/3 @ New York Giants

Analysis

Even though the Cowboys clinched the division last week at home, they will play their starters to give themselves the best opportunity to finish with the best record in the NFC and earn a bye week. The Giants have mailed it in and don’t put up much of a fight.

Prediction

Cowboys 31 Giants 13 (Cowboys 12-4
